What is an issue that our world needs to work on? How did you decide what to do?

If your pet could talk, what would he or she say? If you could learn any language, which one would you choose? What are three things that you could never live without?

You may want to change names and identifying details to protect yourself against prying eyes. It can be a laboratory, where you experiment with different approaches. The people around you can become fictional characters or the subjects of poems.

Go beyond what you see -- describe the sounds, the smells, the feeling of the air on your skin. What did it all feel like? Take notes on your observations and see what story ideas emerge. What would it look like?

Listen to your own family and friends -- really listen. Here are some journal ideas for creative writers: Does it represent your personality well? Go somewhere you would normally never go. Would you rather be an animal or a toy? What led up to the event; what happened next?

Why or why not? Where do you think she lives? What does it mean to be an optimist? Do you ever donate money to people in need? You can go beyond mere reporting and write what you imagine as well.

Any of this can be the beginning of a story or poem. Would you rather be really big or really tiny? Do you want to get married someday? If you were a teacher, what subject, class, and grade would you teach?

Or imagine that some part of it had been different. What shows would you visit?

So go ahead and explore, enjoy, and, above all, write on! If you invented a celebration dance, what would it be called? Write down the details that will make the setting come alive on the page.
